Tom’s Tools from Red Oak Hollow Lathe Works

Welcome to Tom’s Tools web site, the primary source for large wood woodturning tools which you will find to be invaluable when you teach the craft and when you are doing a woodturning demonstration.  If you came here from the Red Oak Hollow Lathe Works web site, thanks for coming.  If you haven’t been there, you may want to visit after you look around here.  That is my original web site for my actual woodturning business.

For those of you who may be on the more senior siTomClass4Webde of young, remember your high school math class and that giant slide rule hanging up in front of the classroom?  It sure was useful for the teacher to be able to use that large and easy-to-see-from-the-back-of-the-room slide rule to show us how to use one.  And yes, I did have a holster on mine and walk around school with it hanging from my belt.   But anyway, we who teach woodturning classes or do woodturning demonstrations know that it is pretty hard to hold up even a half inch bowl gouge and expect the folks in the audience to be able to see where we are pointing.  But that is important  so they can understand our explanation about the bevel and how to hold the tool.  You just need something bigger than an actual bowl gouge or other tool so they can see better.

Please take a look at what I am making — Tom’s Tools, large wood woodturning tools made of “high speed maple” to use for demonstrations and instruction.  I made a set of these for myself several years ago and they have been an invaluable resource for my classes and demonstrations.  Now they are available to you.  Please see the other pages here at TomsTools.com for more specific information.
